3M Scotch No. 5 Clear Electrical Insulation Tape is a high quality, adhesive electrical insulation tape often used for the insulation of motor coils, transformers and wiring. It consists of a thin, transparent layer of polyester film which is coated on one side with a strong acrylic adhesive.
It is resistant to most common cleaning solvents and oils.
3M # 5 Electrical Tape is made from a 0.025mm layer of polyester film. Once the adhesive is added, total tape thickness comes in at 0.063mm (2.5 mil).
This tape exhibits very low stretch (100% max. elongation) during application but is highly conformable for easy application around coil knuckles, lead junctions and irregular shaped objects. It has a breaking strength rating of 44 N/10mm.
3M 5 Clear Electrical Tape is UL recognised for us in electrical applications up to 130°C (266°F). The acrylic adhesive is tacky, fast acting and strong. Adhesion to steel is rated at 3.8 N/10mm).
The thin, PET Film used in this tape has good abrasion resistance and resists cut-through and puncturing.
No. 5 Electrical Tape has a dielectric strength rating of 5,500V and an insulation resistance rating of >1 x 106 megohms. It is typically used as primary insulation for wires and lower voltage cables or as secondary insulation in medium to high voltage electrical apparatus.
