Nomex Type 411 Insulation Paper is a specialised, uncalendered version of Nomex Type 410. This variation is nowhere near as widely used as the 410, but in certain applications, it does offer several benefits. Nomex 411 exhibits improved impregnability and saturability when compared with 410, which makes it highly suitable for use in cast resin application as turn and layer insulation.
This quality, flexible electrical insulation material is available directly from this page in a selection of thicknesses. Cut parts are also available upon request. For more information on Nomex 411, please do read on.
Nomex Type 411 has good dielectric strength. Exact values vary depending on the thickness of the material and are summarised in the table below.
Thickness | Dielectric Strength AC Rapid Rise (kV/mm) |
Full Wave Impulse (kV/mm) |
Dielectric Contant at 60 Hz |
Dielectric Contant at 1 kHz |
Dissipation Factor at 60 Hz (x 10-3) |
Dissipation Factor at 1 kHz (x 10-3) |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
0.13mm | 9 | 18 | 1.2 | 1.3 | 3 | 5 |
0.18mm | 9 | 18 | 1.2 | 1.3 | 3 | 5 |
0.25mm | 9 | 18 | 1.2 | 1.3 | 3 | 5 |
0.38mm | 9 | 16 | 1.3 | 1.4 | 3 | 5 |
0.58mm | 9 | 16 | 1.3 | 1.4 | 3 | 5 |
Though they are the same in chemical composition, there are (some) significant differences between Nomex 410 and 411. In other areas, specifically, the effect temperature has on the overall dielectric strength of the material and the effect moisture (humidity) has on the electrical strength.
Although NOMEX® Type 411 papers exposed for 6 days at 96% relative humidity absorb up to 16% water, they retain at least 85% of their bone-dry dielectric strength. This is in marked contrast to most porous insulation materials.
Nomex 411 is classified as a 220°C (Class C) electrical insulation material. Arrhenius plots of thermal aging behaviour for NOMEX® are exemplified by Figures 7, 8 and 9 of the NOMEX® Type 410 data sheet. Similar aging of NOMEX® Type 411 paper at elevated temperatures has resulted in its recognition as a 220˚C insulating material.
Nomex 411 has good mechanical strength and overall tensile strength. It is not as strong as type 410 but can be handled, cut and shaped with ease. Exact values (once again) vary depending on thickness. They are summarised in the table below.
