Alapin Flange Gaskets are an economical, versatile solution for sealing many common fluids, gases and media at medium temperatures and pressures. This type of gasket has excellent resistance to oils, lubricants, fuels, water & steam and has a maximum, continuous, temperature rating of 340°C for sealing fluids & gases, 255°C for sealing steam.
ANSI B 16.5 Flanges and the associated ANSI B 16.21 Gaskets are widely used in a variety of industries around Australia. The following sections provide more information on the ring gaskets listed on this page, the capabilities of Alapin as a gasket material, and the individual gasket sizes for each standard, ring-face table gasket up to 600NB.
This page lists ring type gaskets. This style of gasket is designed to sit inside the bolts of the flanges and is known by quite a few names, including:
The gaskets featured on this page are all cut to suit the size requirements of ANSI B16.21 and used with ASME B16.5 Flanges. This specification contains 5 different flange tables listed below:
Ii many nominal pipe sizes (NB), the Class 300 and Class 600 call for the same size gasket. The same is true with Class 900 and Class 1500. When this is true, a single gasket is offered that will fit both (denoted on the list as Class 300 / 600). When the specification calls for different size gaskets, individual options for each are listed.
What this means in practice is…
ANSI 150
Does not share it’s sizing with any other flange table at any nominal bore.
ANSI 300
Shares it’s sizing with ANSI 600 up to 80NB (3”). For pipes larger than this, individual gaskets are offered as the sizes differ.
ANSI 600
Shares it’s sizing with ANSI 300 up to 80NB (3”). For pipes larger than this, individual gaskets are offered as the sizes differ.
ANSI 900
Shares it’s sizing with ANSI 1500 up to 65NB (2.5”). For pipes larger than this, individual gaskets are offered as the sizes differ.
ANSI 1500
Shares it’s sizing with ANSI 900 up to 65NB (2.5”). For pipes larger than this, individual gaskets are offered as the sizes differ.
Alapin is a high quality, industrial-grade compressed non-asbestos fibre (CNAF) gasket material. It is made from a combination of mineral fibres and genuine DuPont Kevlar Aramid Fibres which are bound with a Nitrile Butadiene Rubber (NBR) binder.
The resulting gasket sheet exhibits excellent flexibility, compressibility, sealing performance and recovery. These features, and more, are expanded on below:
Like all gasket fibre sheets, the temperature resistance of Alapin is linked to the pressure of the sealing application and the type of media being sealed. That said, a rough guide for this material is:
Maximum Temperature
Continuous, Non-Steam: 340°C.
Short-Term, Non-Steam: 375°C.
Continuous, Sealing Steam: 255°C.
Alapin Industrial Gasket Material is resistant a wide range of chemicals, fluids and media. The list below is by no means comprehensive, rather just a summary of the most common types of media that Alapin is known to be compatible with:
Maximum operating pressure is directly linked to the temperature of the application (as illustrated on the above Alapin pT Diagram). The figures below should be considered in this context.
Maximum Pressure
Continuous: 12 MPa (up to about 170°C, less after this temperature is reached).
In addition to its ability to withstand elevated temperatures & pressures, as well as a wide range of fluids and gases, Alapin has excellent sealing characteristics. Some of these are summarised in the table below with more information available on our Alapin Gasket Material Technical Data Sheet.
