Basalt Hard-Wearing Insulation Tape (649°C)
Basalt Woven Insulation Tape is a specialised type of high temperature insulation fabric. This tape is produced from basalt, an igneous rock with origins to molten lava. It is spun into fibres and assembled as yarns which are then expertly woven to form our Basalt Tape.
This tape is often selected as an alternative to fibreglass-based tapes. It is extremely hard wearing with very good abrasion resistance, high tensile strength and ease of handling.

Basalt Insulation Tape Key Features.
Outstanding Heat Resistance.
Woven Basalt Tape is able to withstand continuous exposure to temperatures up to 649°C.
There's actually a bit of a buffer built into this figure as the tape will maintain its' integrity all the way up to 982°C. After 649°C, insulation performance tends to drop and more heat transfer is allowed. We always go by the lower of these figures however not everyone does so if you do see a higher temp. rated basalt tape, it may be worth checking which temperature figure they are basing this claim on.
Strong with Good Abrasion Resistance.
This tightly woven tape offers excellent resistance to fraying, tearing and abrasion. It has very high tensile strength and will resist stretching.
Because of these allround physical properties, Basalt Tape is often used as a heat wrap tape for exhausts; especially in situations where the insulation will be exposed to rocks and other debris over time. In these applications, it is usually secured with either metal cable ties or hose clamps.
Easy To Handle and Very Flexible.
For a tape made from rock, it's surprising how flexible it is. Our Woven Basalt Tape can easily be wrapped tightly around small pipes and turned around corners and bends.
Unlike fibreglass tapes, Basalt tape doesn't tend to irritate the skin (though this may differ from person to person).
