Our Black Silicone Self-Fusing Sealing and Insulating Tape is a versatile product that can be used for a variety of repair and construction work. Manufactured from high quality silicone rubber, this self-amalgamating tape sticks just to itself. Once in place, it will form a homogenous mass that seals, insulates and protects.
Our Black Self-Fusing Silicone Tape is available in handy 6 metre rolls. Because of its versatility, this tape is a great choice to keep on hand for unforeseen repair work. More information on its properties and how it’s used is included below:
Made from a quality grade of silicone rubber, our Black Self-Fusing Tape offers good, long-term performance. This tape is very durable and can be used for applications indoors or outdoors. It is also quite robust with a tensile strength of 0.8MPa.
Maximum elongation (at break) is 450% which ensures that it has a good amount of stretch in it for tidy application or complex or irregular shapes.
Because it is made from pure silicone rubber, this tape exhibits excellent temperature resistance once it’s installed. It can withstand environments between -60°C and +180°C.
This self-amalgamating tape possesses very good electrical characteristics. It has a dielectric strength of 30kV/mm. This has led to its widespread use for splicing and terminating electrical cables as well as an insulating and protective overwrap.
Our Black Self-Fusing Silicone Tape has a variety of potential uses. The fact that it’s in short rolls (6 metres) means it’s ideal for keeping in the toolbox or garage for when an unforeseen job comes up. Just some of the jobs it’s used for include…
For those of you who have never used a self-amalgamating tape before, the first thing to understand is that this tape is not adhesive in the conventional sense. It bonds to itself, but it isn’t coated with an adhesive that lets it stick to a surface if laid flat. Because of this fact, self-fusing tapes are typically used for wrapping around pipes, cables, hoses or other objects.
To apply the tape, find the end of the roll and begin to separate the transparent interlayer material from the black silicone tape. This interlayer is present to stop the roll from fusing before use and can be discarded as the tape is applied.
Begin wrapping the tape around the object. Apply on an angle of about 45° so that you achieve an over-lap of about 50% between the layers.
If you’re using this tape to seal a hole or leak in pipes or hoses, be sure to leave enough room either side of the leak point to create a good, long lasting seal. Our Black Silicone Self-Fusing Tape will begin to fuse to itself after about 10 minutes (which lets you adjust placement if needed). It will be fully fused after about 12 hours.
