Our Graphite Packing Style 5000 is a versatile style of graphite pump and valve packing. This style is made using high purity graphite yarns that are plait braided to form a tough, durable gland packing material.
Since it is made with pure graphite, Style 5000 is self-lubricating and generates very low rates of friction even at high speeds. It is able to handle shaft speeds up to 20 MPS (4,000 FPM). It’s pressure rating varies depending on whether it is installed in a pump of valve. In pumps, it is rated to 207 BAR while in pumps this number is 34 BAR.
One of the main benefits associated with this high-quality graphite packing is its’ virtually leak free sealing performance. It achieves this by forming a homogenous mass under gland pressure. This results in maximum sealability and a reduction in flush water usage.
Being made from pure graphite, Style 5000 has excellent heat dissipation properties. It also has very good temperature resistance and can withstand the following:
Air: 455°C
Steam: 649°C
Non-Oxidising Atmospheres: 3,315°C
This packing also has excellent chemical resistance as it withstands media across the entire 0-14 pH scale.

A box cutter (AKA Stanley knife) will get through our Style 5000 Graphite Packing, though you may need to make multiple slices (especially with the thicker sizes). If you’re looking to ensure you achieve an exact 45° cut (for making packing rings) specialised packing scissors are best.
Do you make Packing Rings?
We can supply them, yes. We don’t make them ourselves but we do have some great partners who do here in Australia. If you’d like us to arrange some for you shoot us an email with the sizes and details of what you’re after and we can arrange a quote. We can usually turn these around fairly quickly (local stock and a local ring manufacturer helps a lot with this).
