High Dielectric Strength and Electrical Properties.

Nomex 410 has excellent dielectric strength and electrical insulation properties. It is often used for the insulation of high voltage electric motors & transformers. As with all electrical insulation materials, thickness and density have an effect of the typical electrical properties. The table below provides an overview for each thickness.

Good Temperature Resistance and Thermal Stability.

Nomex® 410 has been recognised by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) for continuous use in applications up to 220°C. Additional testing has also confirmed that Nomex 410 will maintain a high dielectric strength (12 kV/mm) for several hours at up to 400°C.

More information on this capability and charts showing the relationship between electric performance and temperature are included on the technical data sheet.

Excellent Mechanical Strength and Properties.

Nomex® 410 Paper is strong, tough and resilient. In the thinner grades, it is also quite flexible while the thicker styles tend to have more rigidity. Once again, specific mechanical properties vary depending on the thickness of the Nomex. The table below contains more information.

² Data presented for initial tear strength is listed in the direction of the sample per ASTM D1004. The tear is 90 degrees to sample direction; hence, for papers with a higher reported machine direction initial tear strength, the paper will be tougher to tear in the cross direction.

Flame Resistance.

Nomex® products do not melt and, with a limiting oxygen index (LOI) at 220°C above 20.8 (the critical value for combustion in normal air), they do not support combustion.

Chemical Compatibility.

Nomex® is essentially unaffected by most solvents and is unusually resistant to attacks by acids and alkalis.  It is compatible with all classes of varnishes and adhesives, transformer fluids, lubricating oils and refrigerants.

Much More.

Given that is has been used in a wide variety of industries for decades, the properties of Nomex 410 has been tested, evaluated and certified in a range of areas. In the interests of brevity, not all information on this quality insulation paper is presented here. For more information, please do consult the Nomex 410 Technical Data Sheet on the media tab.

Applications for Nomex 410 Insulation Paper.

Nomex 410 Insulation Paper is used by several industries in a large range of applications. Just some of the more popular uses include…

  • Slot insulation for electric motors.
