Oil Jointing General Purpose Gasket Paper is a thin, easy to cut type of gasket fibre that’s both low cost and fairly versatile. Though it is definitely not designed for demanding things like exhaust gaskets or high pressure industrial sealing, our general purpose gasket paper is an inexpensive option for making quick gaskets for low pressure pumps, tanks and flange connections.
Oil Jointing General Purpose Gasket Paper is used in applications with temperatures up to 120°C and is made from cellulose fibres. It is soft and easy to cut and thanks to its low compression requirements, will affect a seal with less bolt load than many other types of gasket paper or fibre.
Our Oil Jointing is widely used in the automotive repair, agricultural, marine and engineering sectors in Australia. It has become an industry-standard because of its reliability and economy.

No. Gasket goo can help in some applications as it makes getting the old gasket out a fair bit easier when it does come time to disassemble (hopefully years down the track). It can also assist with filling some voids or imperfections in the flange. That said, it’s an extra material being added to the sealing process which means it can introduce complications as now there are two materials doing the job, rather than one. In our own work, we don’t use it.
One of the best things about this gasket paper is how easy it is to cut. Of course, you need the shape first. The best way to do this is to use the old gasket to trace out the shape required (or if it’s pretty oily just push onto the new gasket paper and use the resulting marks). You can then cut your gasket with scissors.
Bolt holes can be a little tricky (if you need them). If you don’t have a wad punch, punch through the gasket paper with a nail or screw, then slowly enlarge to the right size.
It can be produced but it’s not standard. Having adhesive gaskets can make fitting a lot easier (especially when working with vertical flange faces). Of course, the adhesive part is also another media in the seal which can deteriorate and leave a potential leak path, so you need to be a bit careful. Gasket paper can be stuck with super glue or our Weicon Adhesive Spray. We suggest only using the minimum amount to minimise chances of future leaks.
We’ll supply a continuous roll. We know how frustrating it can be to have your pieces just a little too short for what you need to cut. The only exception will be if the quantity you order exceeds the maximum roll lengths. We’ve listed these below for reference:
