In this post, we'll be explaining how a water treament plant used three of our Plastic Metal Filled Epoxy Systems to rebuild a damaged flange.
Over time, repeated opening and closing of the valve combined with the high flow rate of the water passing through had caused damage.
The inner edge of the flange had corroded and did not provide a suitable sealing surface for the gasket anymore leading to leakage. The epoxy repair compounds used fixed this problem by allowing for a full rebuild of the surface.
First, Preparation and Cleaning.
The valve was pre-treated by sand blasting followed by thorough cleaning with Cleaner S.
Rebuilding the Surface with HB 300 Plastic Steel Epoxy.
To create the new surface, HB 300 was applied generously to the edge.
After curing, this steel filled epoxy was then sanded back to the specified measurements. HB 300 can be sanded and machined with precision though, to ensure its strength was maintained, the minimum layer thickness of 5mm was strictly observed.
Next, a barrier layer of Plastic Metal HP was applied to the inner edge of the valve to prevent diffusing water.
The final, blue layer you can see in some of the photos is Ceramic BL. This ceramic filled epoxy was used to protect the restored valve from the water and suspended particles in the future.
Overall, the project eliminated the need for a replacement valve saving a significant amount of both time and money.
