Description
Our Weicon Plastic Metal C is a high temperature grade of epoxy with a liquid consistency. This two-part compound is typically used for coating or casting applications and sets very hard. Once cured, it has very good physical strength and excellent temperature resistance (up to 220°C). It will also be grey in colour.
Plastic Metal C is used as an adhesive for large surface area bonding, for pouring out moulds, coating surfaces and more. It is used by a variety of industries around the world and has several features. Some of which include:
Very High Temperature Resistance (for an Epoxy).
Plastic Metal C has one of the highest temperature resistance ratings of any of our epoxies. Once it’s full cured it can withstand continuous exposure to between -35°C and +220°C.
Since it’s an epoxy, other coatings usually bond to it which makes this epoxy repair compound a great choice for repairing and coating pitted and corroded parts that need to be powder coated. Since it has a liquid consistency before it cures, it can easily be poured over the damaged surface and will take up the small pits and voids left by slight corrosion.
High Mechanical Strength.
Cured Plastic Metal C will have formed into a strong, solid mass with high mechanical properties. This quality epoxy repair compound has been trusted for decades in demanding industrial applications and subjected to numerous tests. A summary of some of the results are included in the table below (refer to the specifications tab for additional data).
Mechanical Strength (50% of Final) | 24 Hours (when curing at 20°C) |
---|---|
Final Strength | 48 Hours (when curing at 20°C) |
Pressure | 140 MPa (at 25°C, DIN 53281-83) |
Bending Strength | 77 MPa (at 25°C, DIN 53281-83) |
Mean e-Modul | 5,800 - 6,000 MPa (at 25°C, DIN 53281-83) |
Shore Hardness | 90 Shore D (ASTM D 1706) |
Easy to Use.
Weicon Plastic Metal C is a two part epoxy. It has a mix ratio of 100:8 (resin / hardener). If using the whole kit at once though, there’s no need for complex measuring as extra space has been left in the resin container for you to add the hardener and stir.
Once the two parts are mixed, Plastic Metal C will have a liquid consistency that lets it be poured easily. This makes applying the epoxy easy, especially in situations where it needs to be poured into moulds or containers.
Deep Maximum Pour Depth and Low Shrinkage.
Since this is an epoxy resin that is often used for casting and making moulded parts, pour depth is very important. Plastic Metal C can be applied up to 60mm deep in a single application. This will cut down on production time for deep pour moulding work and larger cavity and gap filling.
During the cure process, Plastic Metal C exhibits very little shrinkage. Specifically, 0.01%.
Non-Corrosive, Anti-Magnetic and Dielectric.
Plastic Metal C is made with aluminium filled epoxy resin. It is completely non-corrosive and safe to use with aluminium, stainless and other kinds of metal. This epoxy compound is anti-magnetic and exhibits excellent electrical insulation properties.
Popular Applications for Plastic Metal C.
Plastic Metal C is often used for applications that require an epoxy with excellent temperature resistance and a liquid consistency. It is widely used for:
- Large surface area bonding for high heat areas (e.g. laminating metal sheets).
- For coating and repairing surfaces that have been damaged by pitting, scratches or high abrasion.,
- Filling cavities and voids in epoxy or metal parts.
- For making moulded parts.
- The production of mounting parts and tools.
